Turzai Votes Against Democratic Plan to Raise Taxes by a Billion Dollars
10/2/2009
Says House Democratic plan hurts Pennsylvania’s economy and middle-class families

Rep. Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) was joined by his House Republican colleagues in voting against the House Democrat’s $1 billion dollar tax increase proposal. He released the following statement:

“The House Democratic billion dollar tax proposal is setting Pennsylvania up for failure. We should not be increasing taxes on hard-working Pennsylvanians. Raising taxes during a recession is the last thing we should do. House Republicans have stood strong against any taxes increases and have instead advocated for responsible, prioritized spending.

“We believe state government has to live within its means by reducing overall spending, prioritizing our concerns and holding the line on taxes. Our budget proposal reduces overall spending by close to a billion dollars but prioritizes our hard-earned tax dollars by placing an emphasis on education, hospitals and law enforcement.”
