Turzai to Host Shredding Event June 2
5/17/2018
HARRISBURG – As a free service to the community, House Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) will host a shredding event to give residents of the 28th Legislative District a chance to safeguard themselves against identity theft by having their personal documents securely destroyed.

The event will be held on Saturday, June 2, from 8-10 a.m., at the McKnight Elementary School/North Allegheny Intermediate parking lots, Cumberland Road in Pittsburgh.

“This is a great opportunity to shred documents with personal information much more quickly than a home shredder allows. The industrial shredder is also better at protecting the information than some home models. Don’t take the chance with information that someone could use to steal your identity,” Turzai said.

Acceptable items include all paper and manila folders. No more than five bags or boxes per household are permitted, and no businesses. Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed. Examples of items that can be brought to the event include documents that contain personal information, including birth dates, Social Security numbers, bank account information and credit card numbers.

“Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing crimes across the Commonwealth and we need to put a stop to it,” said Turzai. “By allowing residents free use of an industrial-sized shredding truck, they can be assured that old documents do not fall into the wrong hands.”
