Turzai to Host Free Prescription Drug Take-Back and Shred Event Aug. 20
WEXFORD – House Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) will host a free Prescription Drug Take-Back and Shred Event on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 9-11 a.m. The Town of McCandless Police Department will lend its assistance at the Carson Middle School Campus, where the event will be held.

Medications that will be accepted for the event include prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, pet medications, patches, vitamins and supplements, and inhalers. Those items not approved for disposal include IV bags, blood or infectious waste, nebulizers, oxygen tanks and mercury thermometers.

In addition to the drug disposal service, the event will serve as a location to properly dispose of confidential documents. Residents can drop off three to five boxes per household of unwanted documents that contain personal information. The materials to be shredded should not include newspapers, magazines or books. Paper clips and staples need not be removed before shredding. This is for personal shredding only.

“Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing crimes across the Commonwealth and we need to put a stop to it,” said Turzai. “By allowing residents free use of an industrial-sized shredding truck, they can be assured that old documents, such as credit card statements, utility bills and medical bills, do not fall into the wrong hands.”

The Carson Middle School Campus is located at 300 Hillvue Lane, Pittsburgh. For more information, call Speaker Turzai’s district office at 412-369-2230. To inquire about Turzai and his legislative priorities, visit RepTurzai.com or Facebook.com/RepTurzai.
