U.S. Steel Proposal Will Benefit Pennsylvania's Economy, Turzai Says
11/30/2007
Rep. Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) released the following statement regarding United States Steel Corporation’s proposal to invest $1 billion into its Pittsburgh area facilities:

“U.S. Steel’s proposed $1 billion capital investment program at its Pittsburgh area facilities will bring more job opportunities to southwestern Pennsylvania. U.S. Steel employs thousands in our region and is one of the state’s largest manufacturers. This proposal will have a significant impact on Pennsylvania’s economy. I heartily applaud U.S. Steel CEO John Surma and his team for investing an additional $1 billion into upgrading facilities in Allegheny County.

“Keeping family-sustaining jobs in Pennsylvania has been a main goal of the Keystone Manufacturing Initiative, an initiative I spearheaded with my fellow Republican colleagues to encourage manufacturers to stay and expand in Pennsylvania. In order to sustain and create jobs, we need to have a business-friendly environment. Without good, private sector employers, you can’t have jobs.

“Pro-growth measures give businesses a reason to stay in the area, helping to strengthen the economy. Pennsylvania policy makers need to continue making Pennsylvania a business-friendly environment, so that manufacturers will follow U.S. Steel’s lead and invest in the state and stay here and expand here. The entire region will benefit economically from U.S. Steel’s proposed investment.”
