HARRISBURG – Speaker of the House Mike Turzai sent the following letter to Dr. Rachel Levine, secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, requesting additional details on reports of COVID-19 data.
Dear Secretary Levine,
You report each day the number of persons who have tested positively and the numbers of those who have died as a result of COVID-19 in Pennsylvania.
We care about every citizen of Pennsylvania. We are all truly saddened to learn of the death of each of these citizens.
Without revealing any confidential information about each person – her or his name, her or his place of residence – we need to know important facts with respect to each person who has passed away caused by COVID-19. We need more detailed information then you are providing us to make informed policy decisions.
We need to know the sources from where you are obtaining your data.
We need more specific age breakdowns for those that have passed away. The age breakdowns should be in increments of five years. By way of example:
We need specific comorbidity breakdowns for each of those that have passed away. These comorbidities can include diabetes, cardiac disease, hypertension, chronic pulmonary disease, chronic kidney disease, chronic liver disease, immunocompromised and cancer treatment.
We need to know whether a person who passed away did so in any of the following:
Personal Care Homes as defined under Section 1001 of the Human Services Code (Act of 1967)
Assisted Living Residences as defined under Section 1001 of the Human Services Code (Act of 1967)
Long Term Care Nursing Facilities as defined under Section 802.1 of the Healthcare Facilities Act (Act 48 of 1979)
Hospices as defined under Section 802.1 of the Healthcare Facilities Act (Act 48 of 1979).
Of all the positive cases reported among patients, how many people have recovered from COVID-19?
We think the above requested information should be accumulated on a day by day basis and made public. We appreciate a prompt response.
Very truly yours,
Speaker of the House Mike Turzai
