HARRISBURG – Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) today announced that his office has secured a state grant for a community project in the 28th Legislative District.
Brad-Mar-Pine Athletic Association will receive a $125,000 grant for the for the construction of “Neil Walker Field” on Pleasant Hills Road in Marshall Township. Turzai obtained this grant through the Gaming Economic Development Fund (GEDF), which funds community projects in Allegheny County through a tax assessed on slot games in casinos. Votes by two separate entities are needed to finalize these grants.
“We are pleased to report that Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County (RAAC) voted to approve this grant at its scheduled meeting on Friday, Oct. 25, and the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) voted to approve it at its scheduled meeting today,” Turzai said.
This grant money will help pay for the formation/renovation of a youth baseball/softball field near the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church in Marshall Township. The project will include moving 3,000 yards of dirt, adding 4,000 feet of filter sock erosion control, 300 feet of underground 6-inch drain pipe, 140 feet of foul line fencing, 300 feet of outfield fencing, 33 feet of 20-foot-high backstop fencing, one acre of hydroseeding, 345 tons of baseball infield mix, new pitcher’s mound installation, new base installation, two dugouts, two batting cages, purchase of infield grooming equipment, press box, and addition of storage shed and concession stand.
“It was a pleasure to work with everyone at Brad-Mar-Pine Athletic Association,” Turzai said. “My office was pleased to obtain this grant for a new baseball/softball field.”
